Re: laptop connection problem

doesn't sound too far off working... what version of windows and what's the router?

Any clues in the messages that come by as the network tries to connect ? Try disconnecting and reconnecting and watch then.

If you open a 'cmd' window and type the command "ipconfig /all" that will give you a definitive answer on the state of the wireless connection.

Re: laptop connection problem

What's the security level on the router? If's it WPA2 you may need to update your drivers depending on the age of your laptop. Although if it was working before then its clearly not the issue.

It could be a neighbour etc has started using some wireless equipment that intereferes with yours. Baby monitors, video senders etc.

You can download tools to help you track down the issue.

Inssider (its free)

Handy bit of software that will display all the visable wifi networks in range including what channel of the wireless frequency ther'e on amongst other things. If yours clashes with another, you can spot it. What it won't do is show video senders etc (you have to buy hardware for that) but it could be worth checking.

Re: laptop connection problem

So the netbook connects to the new router/modem via wifi and can browse the internet ok?

Is the router a "EchoLife HG520s" ?

Does the connection hang at the "Acquiring IP address" stage ?

From your netbook, I think you will be able to access your router status screen via your browser by putting in the web address "http://192.168.1.1" (user admin, password admin). My guess is the laptop is choking on some encryption setting on the router and you might have to turn that off.
