I run quad Intel Q6700 2.66 GHz @ 3.2 GHz smoothly. Can squeeze more from it but can't be bothered to play with voltage and such.

Used Eset Smart Security (NOD32 + firewall) in the past. Very efficient. Something like 35 UER per year.

I now use Linux and treat Windows as a gaming console.
